Learning Area: Science
Qualification: NCEA Level 3
This course is suitable for those students who have an interest in Science and the world around them, and who want to enter tertiary studies. It supports students looking at careers in science, the primary industries, environmental science and conservation. Two topics are covered in this module. The on-going rise of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere is not only changing our climate – it is also changing our oceans. In the first topic students investigate ocean acidification. Two thirds of our planet is covered by ocean, but how much do you know about it? In the second topic, assessed by an external exam, students learn about ocean systems. Students that are wanting Science to be a UE subject should be taking both Semester 1 and 2.
