Qualification: NCEA Level 3
This course is suitable for those students who have an interest in Science and the world around them, and who want to enter tertiary studies.It supports students looking at careers in science, the primary industries, environmental science and conservation.During this module three topics are covered. Firstly, students investigate the water quality in the Heathcote River and how it is affected by the surrounding environment. The Alpine Fault ruptures, on average, every 330 years with a magnitude 8 earthquake. In the second topic students investigate the evidence that relates to dating of this movement. In the third topic students explore whether life might be possible elsewhere in our Solar System; specifically on our nearest neighbour. Students that are wanting Science to be a UE subject should be taking both Semester 1 and 2.
