Learning Area: Science
Qualification: NCEA Level 3
Level 3 Biology explores the interactions and behaviours of organisms in response to both their external and internal environments. We study the evolutionary mechanisms that contribute to biodiversity and the ways humans use this knowledge for our benefit, also how humans maintain a stable internal environment and what happens when things go wrong. We also examine and evaluate current socio scientific issues. Level 3 Biology opens up many career opportunities and is at the heart of many social and economic issues.
- Animal behaviour and plant responses to environmental factors
- The homeostatic mechanisms of an animal
- The story of evolution, including human evolution
- Develop science investigation and research skills, including field techniques to gather data at Orana Park.
